Help for water-starved residents

The two-month-old charity Gifting Barbados Initiative (GBI) recently came to the relief of those affected by water problems.

Members of the group visited St Joseph where they distributed 121 cases of water in two neighbourhoods, with the 15 volunteers ensuring households received at least one case along with freshly baked sweet buns.

“We saw that there was an issue with water scarcity in the parish of St Joseph specifically, that the areas of Horse Hill and Vaughn’s Road were being severely affected. After hearing residents voice their challenges and continuously ask for assistance via social media, it was also evident that those challenges would have intensified during the volcanic ash fall,” said Katriel Pile, founder of GBI.

The group received donations from board members, relatives and friends.

GBI was officially set up in March by Pile, a 24-year-old attorney and human resource professional. (AC)
