Teenaged Barbadian golfer Emily Odwin made a successful return to the greens last weekend after a year-long layoff, when she won the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour (HJGT) of the Northern NJ Spring Junior Championship in New Jersey.

Competing at the Mountain View golf course in West Trenton, New Jersey, on Saturday, the 17-year-old Odwin opened with a brilliant four under par 68, which included six birdies, to take a four-stroke lead over Sydney Kuo, who played the 18 holes in even par, 72.

In the final 18 holes on Sunday, Odwin increased her lead to six strokes with a solid round, which included only one birdie but 15 pars, nine in succession through the back nine.

This was Odwin’s first tournament on the tour since 2019, when she marked an outstanding year with a win in the HJGT Tournament Of Champions.

Odwin was ranked fourth in the HJGT standings in 2019, but unfortunately, her international campaign came ended early in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

She will be back on the greens on Saturday in the HJGT Memorial Day Junior Open at Deerfield Golf Club in Newark, Delaware.

This will be followed by the sectional qualifier on June 8 for the United States Girls Championships. This qualifier will be played on the Hawk Pointe Golf Club in New Jersey. (EZS)
