Residents regret killing

Residents of Babylon Road, St Andrew said they believed the death of 88-year-old Rupert Dacosta “John” Alleyne could have been prevented.

On Friday around 4:40 p.m., police received a report stating Alleyne was in his home lying in a pool of blood.

When a Sunday Sun team visited the area yesterday, residents empathised with the man they believed committed the foul deed, who they said was in fact related to Alleyne.

“I’m sorry John is dead but the guy who killed him is not a bad person. However, he was a [Psychiatric Hospital] outpatient and acts up when he’s off his medication,” a woman, who requested anonymity, said.

She said the man tended to go off his medication from time to time and they had called the police for him before, adding this was the case the night before the killing. (CA)
