Gros Islet – Teenaged pacer Jayden Seales was the surprise package in the West Indies 13-member squad for the first Test against South Africa, starting on Thursday at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St. Lucia.

The Windies selection panel also recalled Shai Hope and left-handed opener Kieran Powell, and they are both in contention for a return to the line-up for this series, which will be contested for the Vivian Richards Trophy.

Hope last played a Test last July in England and Powell made his last Test appearance three years ago in December.

Cricket West Indies said pacer Shannon Gabriel was unavailable for selection because of injury.

Squad:

Kraigg Brathwaite (Captain), Jermaine Blackwood (Vice Captain), Nkrumah Bonner, Roston Chase, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua da Silva, Jason Holder, Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Kyle Mayers, Kieran Powell, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales.
