Suriname records 210 deaths from COVID-19 in June

Paramaribo – Suriname officials said on Tuesday five deaths from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic were registered in the past 24 hours, pushing the total number to 210 deaths for the month of June.

Health authorities said that the death toll now stands at 512 after the first case was detected in March last year. They said in the past 24 hours, 111 people tested positive for the virus, pushing the positive cases in the country to 21 360.

There have been 16 956, recoveries including 246 in the last 24 hours. There are still 210 people in the hospitals, 29 people are being nursed in the intensive care units. There are also 1 670 positively tested citizens in isolation.

In Jamaica, the Ministry of Health and Wellness reported four more COVID-19 related deaths including three males, ranging in ages from 50 to 79 years and a 55-year-old female. The ministry said three of the new deaths were previously reported under investigation.

As a result, the country’s death toll has risen to 1 065.  The island also recorded 26 new cases of the virus Monday, pushing the total number of confirmed cases on the island since the outbreak to 50 080.

The new cases comprise 14 females and 12 males with ages ranging from three to 93 years.

The ministry further reported four new recoveries, which pushed the total recoveries to 29,957. There are 18,695 active cases on the island.

In Guyana, the country’s Covid-19 death toll climbed to 468 Tuesday following the deaths of a 38-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman, both of whom resided in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica).

Guyana has also recorded 68 new cases of the novel coronavirus, taking the total positives recorded to date to 19 959.

A total of 13 persons are receiving care in the ICU, 91 are in institutional isolation, 1 508 in home isolation and nine in institutional quarantine. The total recoveries stand at 17 879.

In Trinidad and Tobago, 11 deaths including eight males, pushed the country’s death toll to 833, the Ministry of Health reported in its latest bulletin,

It said that there were 185 new positive cases from samples taken between June 25-28 and that 32, 528 persons have now been infected with the virus, with 24, 518 recovered.

There are 7, 177 active cases with 389 patients in hospitals , 274 in state sanctioned facilities and 6, 464 in home isolation.

The Ministry of Health and Wellness in St. Lucia confirmed eight new cases of COVID-19 from a batch of 195 samples taken during the period June 25-28.

“Confirmation was also received today of the recovery of 5 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases currently recorded in country to date to 87. Presently, two of the active cases require critical care at the Respiratory Hospital. The new cases bring the total number of cases diagnosed in country to date to 5292,” the ministry said in a statement.

In Barbados, two new COVID-19 cases, a male and female, were recorded on Monday, June 28, from the 568 tests conducted by the Best-dos Santos Public Health Laboratory. Thirty-three people are in isolation.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, since March 2020, has moved to 4 079 (1 976 females and 2 103 males). Forty-seven people have died from the virus.
