Formula 3 driver Zane Maloney produced another impressive drive to finish second in race two of the sixth round of the 2021 Formula Regional European Championship at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium this morning.

It was his second time on the podium this weekend after a third-place finish in yesterday’s race. However, had it not been for a momentary lapse in concentration on the penultimate lap, Maloney may have been celebrating two second placed finishes.

Championship leader Gregoire Saucy of ART Grand Prix returned to his familiar position on the podium after securing a remarkable seventh win of the season in race two. The Swiss improved his personal tally to 189 points, 60 more than Maloney’s R-ace GP teammate Hadrien David in second. David also placed third in race two.

Maloney is third in the drivers’ standings with 118 points after his most productive weekend since May 22 and 23 at the Circuit de Monaco where he placed second in race one and claimed victory in race two.

The competition’s seventh round was to be held at Nürburgring in Germany from August 7 to 8 but due to devastating floods in Eifel and the surrounding regions, Nürburgring and its infrastructure is being used a central base camp for emergency services. A new venue will be announced soon.
