Government’s quest to inoculate the majority of Barbadians against COVID-19 has positive implications for the economy, says Central Bank Governor Cleviston Haynes.

The economist said yesterday that as a country that is heavily dependent on tourism, COVID-19 vaccinations had the potential to give Barbados an edge while competing for overseas visitors.

Speaking during his online second quarter press conference yesterday, Haynes said based on what the health experts were saying, the vaccine was primarily about reducing the seriousness of infection from the virus.

“So as a country it seems to me that it is in the national interest for as many persons as possible to be vaccinated, purely in terms of taking care of ourselves,” he said. (SC)
