Government will be spending more than $2 million to reopen Alma Parris Memorial School and turn the New Horizon Academy into Barbados’ newest secondary school.

Minister of Education Santia Bradshaw announced this yesterday as the House of Assembly approved the related supplementary financing for the two institutions.

She said the two schools catering to students with behavioural and learning challenges would provide other options for children who “seem to fall through the cracks too often”.

The St Michael South East representative said the $1.94 million needed for renovations at Alma Parris Memorial School in Speightstown, St Peter, would enable the first phase of its reopening, following its closure in 2017. (SC)
