UPP calls for Budget too

The United Progressive Party (UPP) has become the latest political organisation to call for Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley to present a Budget to Barbadians.

Spokesperson on governance for the UPP, attorney Lynette Eastmond, yesterday said Barbadians were being short-handed if a Budget is not presented as a road map to show how the current administration plans to spend taxpayers’ money.

Over the weekend, president of the Democratic Labour Party, Verla De Peiza, called for Mottley to deliver a Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals. This came after Opposition Leader Bishop Joseph Atherley made a similar request late last month in the House of Assembly.

Last week, Government’s senior economic advisor Dr Kevin Greenidge said a Budget was not necessary because the Mottley administration had been transparent with its management of the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic. (BA/PR)
