The cruise ship that was marooned in Barbados’ coastal waters last year after many countries closed their ports of entry due to the COVID-19 pandemic, received a warm welcome return yesterday.

It was one year and eight months ago that the AIDAperla was last here, and Barbadians had been moved by the farewell message in lights the night the ship finally sailed out of the Bridgetown Port on its way home.

Captain Boris Becker yesterday acknowledged the support given by Barbadians at all levels who he said rallied around them and to whom he felt he owed a debt of gratitude.

He said that his “thank you” was “really coming from my heart”. (GC)
