Parents ‘planting negative views’ on jab

Too many adults are still taking their frustrations out on their children, says children’s rights advocate Faith Marshall-Harris.

The attorney, who is chair of the National Committee on the Rights of the Child and vice-chair of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, said many parents were also imposing their negative views about COVID-19 vaccinations on the youngsters, which could hurt them in the long run.

“There is still a fair amount of abuse in Barbados and that needs to stop. Adults taking out their anger and frustration on children is something that is a concern. So I am not concerned about the youth, I am concerned about the people who deal with the youth.

“I think the youth will be okay once they get the right precepts and examples, and once you show them the right way, they do go in the right way; but if we do not, then there is a problem,” Marshall-Harris said.

She was speaking yesterday at the National Botanical Gardens after she and three children planted two Jamaican ackee trees in honour of World Children’s Day. (TG)
