What should have been an enjoyable day at the beach turned into a disaster for a family from the Bronx, New York, after more than US$700 was stolen from them at a popular Bridgetown beach.

Yesterday, Omar DaCosta Holder, an unemployed resident of Block 6C, St Matthias, Christ Church, was in court admitting that he was the culprit.

Holder, 40, confessed to stealing US$700 and CAD$100, totalling BD$1 650, belonging to Fabrica Boukia, along with a passport valued US$165, which was the property of the United States.

Sergeant Verdon Forde told the District “A” Magistrates’ Court No. 1 that the family was in Barbados on holiday and decided to go to Pebbles Beach on August 2. They placed their belongings between some beach chairs and soon after, Holder approached them, asking whether they wanted something to smoke. They showed no interest and he walked away.  (SD)
