Killer to serve seven more years

Date:

Manslayer Runako Lee Omar Husbands was given a starting sentence of 14 years for killing Terrence ‘Papa T’ Phillips, when he reappeared in the No. 2 Supreme Court yesterday.

However, after deductions, he will spend just over seven years in prison.

Husbands, 40, of No. 1 Chapel Gap, Paynes Bay, St James, was charged with murdering Phillips on August 12, 2011. The 11-member jury – one was excused – could not unanimously decide on murder but returned a 10-1 majority guilty verdict on manslaughter.

Husbands was represented by Senior Counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens and attorney Kristin Vanderpool, while Principal State Counsel Oliver Thomas, State Counsel Anastacia McMeo-Boyce and State Counsel Dr Zoe King prosecuted. (HLE)
