Government’s plans to set up a 400-metre track at Wildey began apace this week with the levelling of the land south of the Wildey Gymnasium.

Just over two years ago, Minister of Sports Charles Griffith announced plans for the track following a motorcade held to celebrate the performance of Sada Williams and other athletes.

Since then, track and field has been struggling to find a venue to hold national events.

The dilapidation of the National Stadium and an urgent need to repair the Ryan Brathwaite Track at the Usain Bolt Complex almost scuttled the NAPSAC and BSSAC 2024 season. However, work began on Monday on the area that was originally mooted to be used as a training facility for the Barbados Cricket Association. (KB)
