The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) has issued a reminder that a Small Craft and High Surf Advisory remains in effect for the island.
The advisory comes as moderate surface to low-level winds continue across the central Atlantic and eastern Caribbean. However, a general reduction in wind speeds is forecast, with sea conditions expected to improve by Saturday.
Swell heights are projected to decrease to between 2.0 and 2.5 metres.
Small craft operators and beachgoers are advised to exercise caution, as large open water swells may pose hazards to some vessels. The operation of smaller boats could prove challenging due to the prevailing sea conditions.
A small craft advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to 25 knots and/or sea swells of 2.5 to 3.0 metres (8 to 10 feet) are affecting or expected to affect marine areas within 36 hours. A high surf advisory is issued when breaking waves pose a threat to life and property within the surf zone.
This advisory, issued today at 6 p.m. and will remain in effect until 6 a.m. on Saturday, February 22. (BMS)
