The award-winning documentary Panazz The Story will be screened in Barbados on June 7 and 8 as part of its ongoing world tour, with showings to be held in the courtyard of the Barbados Museum and Historical Society.
The feature-length film, which tells the story of the Trinidadian pan and jazz ensemble Panazz, is co-written and directed by the uncle-nephew team Barry and Adam Bartholomew. Barry Bartholomew is also one of the founding members of the group.
The ensemble includes acclaimed Barbadian saxophonist Arturo Tappin and is credited with helping to reshape public perceptions of pan music and pan players, shifting away from longstanding stereotypes associated with pan yards.
The Barbados screening is being made possible through a partnership between Naniki Barbados and the Barbados Museum.
The event, billed as an “Affair of Film, Music and Art,” will offer more than just a viewing experience. Attendees, particularly young creatives, will have the opportunity to engage directly with the filmmakers, as both Barry and Adam Bartholomew are expected to be present to take questions and share insights into the making of the documentary.
Following its initial screening in Trinidad, Panazz The Story is scheduled to appear at the DC Film Festival in Washington on June 6, and later in New York, London’s Windrush Festival, and Japan.
The film has been produced in five languages, including Japanese, and showcases the ensemble’s evolution through five albums and decades of performance.
A preview session will be held this Tuesday, offering the public a chance to learn more about the upcoming local screenings and what to expect from the film’s presence in Barbados. (PR)
