Quick response from the Barbados National Energy Company Ltd. (BNECL) to an oil spill in Oistins, Christ Church, resulted in it being successfully contained and the clean-up operation is in progress.

According to a release issued through the Barbados Government Information Service, the team at Fairy Valley was alerted to the spill and all relevant emergency and environmental personnel were dispatched to the site.

To facilitate these efforts, the release said, the road from the Y-junction by the Oistins Police Station to the bottom of Oistins Hill is temporarily closed to vehicular traffic. Pedestrians and commuters are also asked to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.

Deputy Prime Minister Santia Bradshaw and Minister of Energy Lisa Cummins were among those on site.

BNECL sincerely apologised for any inconvenience caused and said an update would be provided once the road was safely reopened. (PR/SAT)
