Saying it strongly deprecated the violent attack on a lawman, the Court of Appeal yesterday dismissed Neverlaine Rohan O’Neal Springer’s challenge to his sentence, noting that the facts showed he was a “threat to all officers”.

“We strongly deprecate this violent attack on a police officer and reiterate the need for deterrence to be a consideration in this matter,” Justice of Appeal Margaret Reifer said.
In 2023, Springer, of 3rd Avenue, Long Gap, Spooner’s Hill, St Michael, went on trial for wounding Sergeant Terry Hurdle with intent, and the lesser, alternate count of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Hurdle,
on July 16, 2010.
After the prosecution closed its case, Springer threw in the towel and pleaded guilty to wounding Hurdle with intent.
