Four-time UEFA Champions League winner Clarence Seedorf touched down at the Grantley Adams International Airport (GAIA) earlier today.

The former midfield star is in Barbados as part of a partnership involving Future Barbados and the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI).

Speaking on arrival at the airport, Seedorf said he was eager to engage with the people of the island and explore opportunities across the region.

“It’s always amazing to come to new places in the world. I’m happy to be here and looking forward to explore,” he said, adding that “a lot of interesting projects are on the way”.

Seedorf, who was born in Suriname, said his focus would be on young people.

“If there’s something that I love to do, it’s to connect with the youth, to make sure that we can support them in their growth using sports education,” he stated.

The decorated international, widely regarded as one of the most accomplished midfielders of his generation, also hinted at broader ambitions.

“Sustainable projects come with a good business model and with good partners and finance as part of that,” he said, noting that the region holds significant potential.

“We’re on a mission,” Seedorf added. “But meanwhile, we will definitely enjoy it.”

Seedorf, 49, won the UEFA Champions League our times – once each with Ajax and Real Madrid and twice with AC Milan. He had 8 caps for Netherlands.  (AM)
