New champs rule

DEACONS AND BARBADOS JUNIOR PRIDE are the new respective champions of the junior volleyball knockout male and female tournaments after two exciting finals were contested at the Wildey Gym on Wednesday night.

In a high-energy game of brutal spiking and impressive defence, Deacons dethroned the Barbados Juniors 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-13.  Former Barbados captain Elwyn Oxley led Deacons to victory over an inconsistent Juniors.

Junior Caribbean MVP Andriy Stapleton was awesome in hammering his home team with solid contributions coming from Shamar Bishop and Carlos Cyrus. However, the inconsistency of the Juniors, particularly when Stapleton rotated to the back court, hurt their chances.

The experience of Patrick Oxley as setter and the high leaping attacks from Jason “Bird” King, coupled with the defence play of libero Victor Griffith, denied the Juniors some advantages.
