SAFETY CONCERNS almost forced the cancellation of the next three days of sporting action at the Barbados National Stadium, but the show will go on with some restrictions.

Assistant meet director for the Barbados Secondary Schools Athletics Championship (BSSAC), Andrew Brathwaite, said yesterday officials from the National Sports Council met with members of BSSAC and the Barbados Football Association (BFA) last Friday and laid down the new law, which has implications for the number of people allowed in each stand.

In the case of the finals of the primary and secondary school sports over the next three days, Brathwaite said the engineers recommended that no more than
600 people be allowed in each stand.

Brathwaite was responding to concerns raised by teachers attending a joint meeting of members of the Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) and the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) at Solidarity House yesterday. (YB)
