IT’S BEEN “TEMPORARY” before Cricket World Cup in 2007.
And now the hierarchy of the Barbados Association of Retailers and Vendors (BARVEN) says the dark, dilapidated, unsecured open air market on Cheapside, which has been its temporary home for the past eight years, is not the image it wants for vendors.
This is the declaration from BARVEN president Alister Alexander, who says not only is the venue too small, but there are issues of security and sanitation as well.
“The board has taken a position that it will not continue with this image. We want that removed and we want Government to either give us the permission [to take it down] or to work with us in having a proper structure for the outdoor market,” he told the SUNDAY SUN.
