HUNDREDS OF BARBADIANS had free glaucoma screenings this week.

Consultant ophthalmologist and glaucoma specialist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) and organiser of the Glaucoma Week of activities, Dr Dawn Grosvenor, said, “The response has been overwhelming. All of the practices have been well patronised and we asked people this year to make appointments because we were actually oversubscribed last year.

“By Tuesday most clinics were booked and additional screenings had to be added as the week went along,” Grosvenor said.

Speaking yesterday from the QEH where the third annual Glaucoma Expo was held, Grosvenor said though they did not have a tally of the numbers that passed through the clinics during the week, based on last year, where they screened over 300 people on the Saturday, it is expected to be a similar situation this year.
