IN TWO DAYS the Nation Publishing Co. Limited will unveil a whole new Sunday Sun newspaper and included in the big reveal for the media house’s flagship publication is the addition of QR Codes to major news items.
The Quick Response Code will redirect readers who scan the matrix barcode with a smart device to videos on the relevant topic. The videos provide additional information and footage for the associated story.
According to Nation Publishing’s Editor-in-Chief Roy Morris, the QR Codes will therefore provide Sunday Sun readers with “an interactive, value-added experience”.
“The addition of QR Codes to the new Sunday Sun newspaper is part of an effort to merge the traditional newspaper with technology in a user-friendly, convenient manner,” noted Morris.
“Readers get many of the benefits associated with an online platform while being able to still enjoy all the benefits of the physical newspaper.”
QR Codes take users directly to the story with little delay or effort, elimiinating the need for typing into or searching through a web browser. To activate the videos, readers simply scan the codes with a smart device equipped with the correct reader application.
The addition of the scannable codes is just one of a list of anticipated features. Other changes readers can look forward to experiencing with the new Sunday Sun include a fully redesigned newspaper, a refined Easy magazine with more real-life features, a new line-up of columnists and even more dynamic sports pages.

On Sunday, the Nation will partner with RUBIS for a promotion that includes on-the-spot giveaways and Spin to Win prizes for those purchasing a Sunday Sun newspaper. The promotion at the RUBIS Holetown service station runs between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and Nation readers will be able to meet, chat and interact with editors and columnists and other Nation staff. (PR)
