Bajans ‘should learn Chinese’

BARBADIANS SHOULD SPEAK a lot more Chinese and Portuguese, forget about importing iceberg lettuce and promote the region as a single tourism destination.

These are the views of veteran publisher Robert “Bobby” Pitcher, who charges that most Caribbean ministers of tourism are saying and doing the wrong things.

During a media conference at his Rendezvous Gardens, Christ Church office on Wednesday, Pitcher, creative marketing consultant with Fun ‘N’ Sun Publishing Inc., said Government should add Portuguese and Chinese language courses to the curriculum of all schools to help it maximise tourism arrivals and earnings from China and Brazil.

It was unfortunate that some of the people trained to interact with tourists, including waiters, did not have a second language, he told the media. (TY)
