THERE was no more convincing proof of  the worth of fast, full-length swing bowling thanin the gripping, low-scoring contest between the two down-under neighbours at Auckland’s Eden Park yesterday.

When it is delivered left-arm, over the wicket at 140 kph and above, and speared in at the toes, as it was by Trent Boult for New Zealand and Mitchell Starc for Australia, it can be all but unplayable.

Boult’s 5-27 from histen overs knocked over the Aussies for 151. Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Marsh chopped hasty jabs into their stumps; Starc had his middle peg plucked out of the ground.
