WHILE THE DEATH of Lamar Devere Carter was a tragedy, there was still an even larger issue at stake.
On February 11, Carter’s body was discovered by police in the rear of a vehicle at Mangrove Road, St Thomas following a car chase. However, yesterday during Carter’s funeral service, rector of the St Thomas Parish Church, Reverend Dr Michael Clarke said the event was a reflection of how far Barbadian society had fallen and should be used as a wake-up call.
“Don’t let us just lay Lamar to rest and say how wonderful he was, let us remember he was part of a community that is disintegrating. His death would be a waste if we do not stop and reflect on how we have not suffered the little children.
“We will grieve with his parents Andy and Victorine but this is not about them; this is about more than one individual, it’s about nurture. If you put children within various parameters and constraints during the early years where they can explore within certain frames of reference, they will learn the positive things in life,” he said.
