WEST INDIES CRICKET BOARD (WICB) president Dave Cameron is under fire again.
Two weeks before he stands for re-election, Cameron has found himself in hot water after retweeting a post from a fan who suggested that struggling West Indies opener Chris Gayle should be retired.
Cameron moved quickly to delete the retweet and offer an apology, but by then he had set off a firestorm of disapproval. He was already under the microscope as a result of the embarrassment of the aborted West Indies tour of India for which the WICB has been asked to pay US$42 million in compensation to the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
The original tweet, which tagged Cameron, was from Gibruan Brijmohan, a West Indian family physician who lives in Australia. After Gayle failed for the second successive match of the World Cup against Pakistan on Friday night, Brijmohan wrote: “Gayle goes … can’t buy a run … let’s give him a retirement package … can’t fail repeatedly and still front up based on reputation @davec51.” (HG)
