Barbadian Shai Hope featured in two key partnerships as West Indies set Bangladesh 322 for victory in their ICC Cricket World Cup match at Taunton today.

Hope, who fell four runs shy of a century, had a partnership of 116 with Evin Lewis after fellow opener Chris Gayle went for a duck. Another partnership of 83 with former Under-19 captain, Shimron Hetmyer, also set the table for the competitive score.

Batting at No. 3, Hope’s 96 came off 121 balls and included four fours and one six. He flicked a full toss to Liton Das at deep square leg off the bowling of Mushfiqur Rahman to fall short of the milestone.

Lewis’ 70 came off 67 balls with six fours and two sixes, while Hetmyer raced to the second fastest half century in World Cup cricket, his 50 coming off 25 balls.

Darren Bravo saw the team to the end with a quick 19 before he was bowled off the last ball.

Summarised scores:

West Indies 321-8 in 50 overs (Shai Hope 96, Evin Lewis 70, Shimron Hetmyer 50, Jason Holder 33, Nicholas Pooran 25, Darren Bravo 19; Mustafizur Rahman 3-59, Muhammad Saifuddin 3-72, Shakib Al Hasan 2-54) vs Bangladesh. (SAT)
