21 road deaths so far in Jamaica

AT LEAST 21 PEOPLE have been killed due to traffic crashes since the start of the year.

According to the Road Safety Unit (RSU) in the Ministry of Transport, Works and Housing excessive speeding was the main cause of the crashes.

The unit is urging motorists to drive within the prescribed speed limits and obey the road code.

Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry, Dr Morais Guy, is also urging persons to be vigilant as they make their way across the nation’s road network.

Guy says too many persons have lost their lives due to road crashes since the start of the year.

Of the 21 persons killed up to Thursday January 29, nine were pedestrians, five were motorcyclists, three were passengers of private motor cars, one was a pedal cyclist, one a public passenger vehicle driver, and the other a private motorcar driver. (Gleaner)
