Jamaicans behind name of complex

MANY BAJANS FROWNED on it, but Jamaicans love it.

That’s Sir Hilary Beckles’ assessment on the controversial naming of the sporting complex at the Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) after sprint phenom Usain Bolt.

The UWI pro-vice-chancellor and principal of Cave Hill said that on a recent visit to the land of wood and water he observed that Jamaicans were elated.

“They love it. They think it is fantastic and are very pleased we are flying the UWI flag.”

He said they think reciprocity is in order after they named the facility at Mona after Sir Frank Worrell, great West Indies cricket captain and Caribbean patriot. He noted, too, that Trinidad also did the same for the cricket legend.
