KINGSTON — Minister of National Security, Peter Bunting, says that murders could rise to as many as 100 by the end of the month.
“For the month so far, we have averaged 3.2 murders per day compared to 2.75 per day for all of 2014. If this rate continues, we could see the month ending with approximately 100 murders,” Bunting said in statement to the House of Representatives Tuesday afternoon.
However, he assured the public that they “need not be unduly alarmed at this time”.
Bunting explained that the spike in murders could be attributed to a single police division — St Catherine North. But he said that the police are responding operationally to the gangs involved.
He also pointed out that for two months of 2014 murders also rose over 100. (Jamaica Observer)
