EVEN THOUGH THIS YEAR will see four local films being released in cinemas, the director of the popular movie Chrissie feels the film industry still has some way to go in Barbados.

Marcia Weekes, the writer/director behind Chrissie, and the soon to be released Vigilante – The Crossing, has admitted, however, that the island has a wealth of talent from which to draw.

The movie, which was filmed in Brittons Hill [renamed Bakers Village in the movie] and Millennium Heights [Aberdeen Heights] explores issues of race, crime and social status and features an all-Barbadian cast of more than 50 actors.

It is set to premiere in Los Angeles, before showing in New York and Atlanta in the United States in February, and will make its debut at the Olympus Cinemas on March 6. (HLE)
