Monument in Yarico’s memory

THE CULTURAL heritage of Barbados is much richer after a monument in tribute to the historical figure Yarico was unveiled at Kendal Plantation in St John yesterday.

The story surrounding Yarico, an Amerindian, said that she fell in love with an English merchant after treating him well, only to be sold by him into slavery in Barbados at Kendal Plantation.

“Our tourism product becomes diversified and Barbados as a mature tourist destination is refreshed,” said Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth, Stephen Lashley, at the unveiling ceremony.
