BLP shakeup

THERE HAS BEEN a cabinet reshuffle, but not the one Barbadians were expecting.

Opposition Leader Mia Mottley last night announced a shake-up of her shadow cabinet midway through the current parliamentary term to make the Barbados Labour Party (BLP) more reflect a Government in waiting.

In the most pronounced change, Mottley has axed St James Central Member of Parliament Kerrie Symmonds as leader of Opposition business in the House of Assembly, and replaced him with St Michael South East MP Santia Bradshaw, a newcomer to the Lower Chamber.

However, former Prime Minister Owen Arthur, who walked away from the Bees last year to sit in Parliament as an Independent, likened Mottley’s key shift to John McCain picking Sarah Palin as his running mate.
