SEEMS NO ONE can survive the cuts these days.

Local basketball is being downsized yet again, with this year’s domestic season set to feature just one other men’s division apart from the Premier League following concerns over declining player turnout in the lower divisions.

Barbados Amateur Basketball Association president Derrick Garrett broke the news after a decision was made at a council meeting to reduce the men’s leagues from three to two.

“We’ve found that the participation in what was First and Second Division has dropped substantially over the last two years and we’re trying to better manage our resources so it doesn’t make sense stretching what little we have over three divisions when some of these teams are undersubscribed,” explained Garrett.
