WORKERS EMPLOYED AT United Commercial Autoworks Ltd (UCAL) downed tools today after hearing they would not be paid expected wages for the week ending December 31.

A spokesman for the group told NATION ONLINE they were incensed after managing director Frederick Gittens had advised during a meeting that no money had been received to pay them.

“We are not putting up with this in the New Year,” said one irate employee who also called for the resignation of UCAL’s chairman, retired trade union boss Sir Roy Trotman.

Some of the workers returned to their jobs this afternoon after being told they would receive “some money” tomorrow. (GC)
