A ten-year-old Wesley Hall Primary School student’s keen observation while visiting a police station, led her to make a gesture to the Royal Barbados Police Force yesterday.
Marian Mubin Kaji noticed there wasn’t an “Exit” sign in the station office at Central Police Station after her parents had conducted business, and were attempting to leave through the same door they entered.
An officer informed them that was not the way out and Marian made the observation that while there was a sign saying that door was not the exit, there was no sign indicating the way out.
Upon the direction of the officer, Marian and her parents exited but at home she pondered the absence of a sign. She then came up with the idea for a hand-made sign for the station. Dad, Mubin, took it a step further by making a more permanent sign.
Yesterday, Marian, accompanied by her father and mother Hamidah, and principal Herbert Gittens, visited the station and presented the new sign to officer in charge of the Bridgetown Division, Superintendent Margaret Stephen.
The sign was immediately erected above the door of the station.
In return for her civic-minded act, Marian was presented with a gift basket and certificate of appreciation from the force. (PR/AC)
