MAYBE THE BEST of Andre Lockhart is still to come.

Barbados’ top playmaker may have had his best performance as a pro yet, having scored
23 of his team’s 32 fourth-quarter points to lead BG Topstar Leitershofen/Stadtbergen to a remarkable comeback win in German Regionalliga basketball action last weekend.

Playing at home against VfL Treuchtlingen, the hosts had to come from down 17 points
in the fourth before pulling out a last gasp 82-77 victory in front of about 400 spectators.

This was after Lockhart played only six minutes in the first half while battling with early
foul trouble.

But the national guard gave his side their first lead via a steal and layup before hitting back-to-back pull-up jumpers to secure the last-second win.

“I was shocked at the end of the game and I’m still in shock today [Sunday] that we won but my team helped me to perform at that point by trusting me.

“I have scored 30 points before in college but this one was even more special with the team being down the entire game and by 18 points at one stage and 17 in the fourth.

“Honestly, at the end of the third I sat on the bench while listening to my coach, looked at the scoreboard and said to myself, ‘It’s time I try to take over the game’.

“It was a magical night and a true blessing from God watching over me,” he added.

Lockhart finished with 28 points, three rebounds, six assists and five steals for the home side, who improved to a 6-1 record and remained in a first-place tie with Noerdlingen at the top of the South East Division.

The performance also boosted the 28-year-old floor general’s season averages to 17.6 points, four assists and 3.3 steals. (JM)
