Income tax returns option

SOME BARBADIANS waiting for their income tax returns may get tax certificates instead of cash, says Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler.

Speaking on the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation’s television programme, The People’s Business on Sunday night, Sinckler said if Government cannot pay all the returns within a reasonable time, they will give taxpayers “an interest bearing instrument” like a tax certificate instead.

He did not go into details as to how this would work.

The minister said the delay in expediting the thousands of income tax returns was due to a cash flow challenge Government is experiencing.
