A five-day ordeal at sea is over for Arthur Alleyne and his wife Sharon Went-Alleyne.

Today the two Barbadians are well and safely back in their Rodney Bay, St Lucia home after their damaged yacht Serenity drifted into the waters off Soufriere, St Lucia, yesterday, after five days adrift in the Caribbean Sea.

Alleyne, a veteran sailor, was upbeat when he spoke to the Daily Nation from Soufriere mere hours after his boat had been assisted into shore by another vessel. He expressed surprise when he heard of the extent of the angst displayed by the regional boating fraternity and his family when news spread that all contact with them had been lost.

The Alleynes left St Lucia last Saturday night for the 14-hour sail to Barbados but never made it, causing a massive regional search mission to be mounted.
