AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the overtime charges implemented for standards officers in the Ministry of Commerce.
This was revealed by Minister of Commerce Donville Inniss who stated that the additional charges have drawn the ire of the business community.
Speaking to the DAILY NATION prior to leaving the island on official business in Berlin, Germany, Inniss said members of the business sector, especially importers, had drawn their concerns about the new charge to his attention a few days ago. He explained there had always been a fee for standards officers like Customs and Port health officers, who by law were required to inspect all containers coming into the island.
However, he said business persons were apparently now being charged extra when officers inspected containers outside of normal working hours.
