It won’t be business as usual at Barbados’ biggest multi-sports complex as the entire staff complement from the Gymnasium of the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex have been placed on the breadline.

The 35 staffers headlined by general manager Barbara Bostic and including office personnel, security, general workers, two technicians and a messenger/driver, will be officially terminated on Thursday with the dissolution of the Gymnasium Limited.

Two of the security officers each have 27 years of service while both technicians have been employed for 26 years.

A long-standing worker told THE NATION he believed the layoffs were part of the Government’s structural adjustment programme. (MK)
