Financial system ‘too much for Govt’

BARBADOS WILL have to find a better way to finance public health care because the present model, which places a burden on Government’s finances, cannot be sustained.

Acting Minister of Health Donville Inniss made this assertion yesterday when he addressed the second health care financing conference organised by the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre.

Inniss said the current model under which Government provided everything for people “from conception to resurrection” could not last forever.

It was in danger of collapsing unless it was reformed, so it was not a question of “if” it would be changed but “when”, he told the gathering.
