BARBADIANS FROM across the globe are back home to see how best they can strengthen links between Barbados and the diaspora.

Hailing from the United Kingdom, Cuba, Panama, United States and Canada, they are in the island to take part in the biennial Barbados Network Consultation 2014 – 3rd Diaspora Conference which begins today under the theme One Nation, One Family – Building Pathways to Prosperity and Development.

On Sunday, the participants attended a service at St Barnabas Anglican Church to bless the conference. It was attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Senator Maxine McClean, Minister of Labour Senator Dr Esther Byer Suckoo and Barbados’  High Commissioner to Canada, Haynesley Benn.

The sermon was given by priest-in-charge Canon Ivan Harewood who urged the participants not to forget the legacy and landmarks left by their forefathers.

The conference takes place at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre from August 5 – 7. It will cover topics such as pathways to trade and investment; hospice and palliative care; family history and technology for economic development.

Special presentations will be made in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the opening of the Panama Canal and railway. (CA)
