Defending champions Chargers and surprise challengers Cawmere continued their neck-and-neck race toward the 2012 Goddard Enterprises Limited Division One volleyball crown when the men’s second round commenced at the Wildey Gym Sunday night.
Both Chargers and Cawmere moved to 5-1 and 26 points each with separate victories.
Chargers easily defeated the struggling Foundation United 25-19, 25-23, 25-21, while Cawmere continued their good form with a 25-27, 25-13, 19-25, 27-25 win over Progressive.
Sandy Crest Medical Centre Deacons also remained in the hunt by dismissing the Juniors at 13, 22 and 22. Deacons are on 24 points following losses to Cawmere and Progressive.
Former kings Progressive’s hot and cold efforts have them on 18 points with a 3-3 record. The Juniors remain on six points, while Foundation are on five.
TeleBarbados Sentry Insurance Brokers Deacons slid further back as the women wrapped up their first round minus one game. Deacons went down to Warrens 25-22, 24-26, 14-25, 23-25, to slip to 3-2 and 16 points.
Warrens ended round one 5-1 with 26 points, one less than leaders Brydens Rockets. The Rockets dismissed Plus Club United 26-24, 25-16, 25-15, leaving Club in the cellar position without a win and one point.
Deacons can recover and close the gap with a win over Chargers in an outstanding round one match against the defending champions.
Chargers’ women continued to struggle in 2012 as they needed five sets to shake off Safe Carlton 25-18, 22-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-8.
Chargers are 2-3 with 14 points and Carlton will start the second round with one win and nine points. (KB)
