THE LONG-CONDEMNED Fairchild Street Market building will be flattened in two months’ time.
This news came from Minister of Health Donville Inniss yesterday following a tour of the once popular City market which is now occupied by vagrants – and rodents.
Inniss, who was accompanied by Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy, Head of Markets in the Ministry of Agriculture, Henderson Greaves, and other health officials, said the decision was made by Cabinet to have the derelict building bulldozed “without further delay”.
Speaking against the backdrop of clothing hanging on a line in the market shell, indicating human occupancy, Inniss said: “We certainly would like to have this building demolished within two months’ time . . . . The Ministry of Public Works has already been notified. The Ministry of Agriculture is working closely with them . . . .”
