INSPECTORS?yesterday conducted an unannounced inspection of fish at the Berinda Cox Fish Market, and seven dolphins were confiscated.
In addition, a bill fish was seized and sent to the laboratory for tests because of suspicion that it contained bacteria.
Elvis Bryan, quality control inspector and officer in charge of the Christ Church market, led the team of inspectors, who included manager of the Bridgetown public markets, Sherlock King, and quality control officers Michelle Wiggins and Frederick Gittens.
Concerning the fish that were dumped, Bryan speculated that because of a severe shortage of fish for the past two years some fish vendors may be storing fish and had an oversupply for the Lent season.
The team conducted a booth to booth search of fish in iceboxes and also looked at how the fish were being handled by the vendors and examined the overall surroundings to ensure that they were being kept in sanitary conditions.
