With three major games on the programme next year, the Barbados Olympic Association (BOA) will begin to have a clearer picture of the talent emerging ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
And with that in mind, all elite athletes who receive funding from the BOA will be required to sign a contract binding them to participate at specific games.
In responding to questions about future plans after the small size of the Barbados team to the London 2012 Olympic Games and the lack of medals for a second successive Olympiad, BOA president Steve Stoute said that the association had extensive discussion with the national federations to determine their needs.
During a press briefing at the Olympic Centre, Stoute said athletics, swimming and boxing, in particular, were targeted by the association to see how they could “develop strategies to help them prepare athletes that will be possible Olympic candidates”.
