Barbados is experiencing a downward trend in HIV transmission.
However, a new report has pointed to a worrying increase in the contraction rate among men.
There is also concern about the spread of the disease among sex workers and prisoners.
“There is anecdotal evidence to suggest that some of the most at risk populations (MARPs) are men who have sex with men (MSM), sex workers (SW) and prisoners,” according to the Barbados Global AIDS Response Progress Report 2012 released yesterday.
“This evidence is yet to be validated and the Ministry of Health has started a behavioural and sero-prevalence survey for MSM and [a] similar study is carded for [sex workers] in 2013,” it added. (SP)
